Washington, Chief Executive Officer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (METRO)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One Gateway Plaza<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles, CA 90012<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Phillip Washington:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RE: Rosecrans Avenue Bridge Reconstruction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Background<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Compton owner and responsible maintenance entity for the Rosecrans Avenue Bridge (100 &#8211; 600 East Rosecrans Avenue, Compton, CA 90221), located in a mixed-use commercial and residential area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Constructed in 1992 \u2014 900 feet long and 56 feet wide,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual Maintenance Cost \u2014 $20,000.00 ($250,000.00 is in deferred maintenance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average daily traffic is greater than 40,000 light to medium sized vehicles,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Larger trucks and buses use alternate routes due to the bridge\u2019s demanding incline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This bridge spans over the Alameda Corridor Railroad project, a twenty-four (24) feet sub-terrain trench below grade level, thereby making the Rosecrans Avenue Bridge arc-styled construction functionally unnecessary, and adversely effecting business activity in this area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Value<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A proposed replacement to the existing bridge with an at-grade structure will improve vehicular and pedestrian access at the Rosecrans Avenue and Alameda Street Intersection.&nbsp; The at-grade bridge replacement will improve the local economic conditions of Rosecrans Avenue businesses, and improve pedestrian safety.&nbsp; METRO Bus routes (60 and 125) will have the opportunity to run with greater efficiency with access to an at-grade crossing from the current diversion to alternate streets in order to avoid the steep incline of the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposed Scope of Work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed project scope of work is for the removal of the existing Rosecrans Avenue Bridge and construction of an at-grade replacement bridge spanning over the Alameda Corridor trench.&nbsp; The pricing assessment for this project comprises the following estimates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Preliminary Engineering (15%)<\/td><td>$4.800,000<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Roadway Reconstruction<\/td><td>$6,000,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Bridge Demolition<\/td><td>$3,800,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Bridge Construction<\/td><td>$5,700,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Traffic Signals, Lighting<\/td><td>$2,000,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Traffic Control<\/td><td>$800,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>At-grade Railroad Signals<\/td><td>$1,950,000<\/td><td>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Total Construction<\/td><td>$20,250,000<\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Contingency (25%)<\/td><td>$5,062,500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Construction Management<\/td><td>$3,330,000<\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Project Total<\/td><td>$33,442,500<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, the current Rosecrans Avenue Bridge negatively effects the economy and pedestrian safety for the City of Compton.&nbsp; An at-grade crossing will produce significant improvements with commerce and quality of life activities for the impacted area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for your consideration in support of this valued infrastructure-upgrading project.&nbsp; Please direct questions to the City of Compton Public Works Director, Wendell Johnson, (310) 605-5505, or by email <a href=\"mailto:WJohnson@comptoncity.org\">WJohnson@comptoncity.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sincerely,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aja Brown<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 28, 2019 The Honorable Dianne Feinstein 331 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-13862","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
